Indulgence Day – Eat More, Lose More Weight

Indulgence Day – Eat More, Lose More Weight

Today’s our Indulgence Day — the one day a week when Clyde and I have chosen to avail ourselves of unlimited carbs.

It works like this: all week long, inspired by the 4HB plan, we lose weight by feasting on lean meat and lots of healthy veggies. When presented with carb-o-licious items during the week, we turn them down — but we do add them to our “Indulgence Day” list.

This is, for me, a very effective psychological tool. It’s one thing to look at a chocolate ice cream cake on Tuesday and say, “I can’t have that.” It’s quite another to look at it and say, “I can have a slice of that — or even the whole thing, if I want it — this coming Saturday!”

With Indulgence Day as part of my plan, I don’t ever feel deprived — because I *can* have as much as I want of whatever I want. I’m just choosing to eat it later. And because, once a week, our bodies get a hearty infusion of bread, pasta, grease, and sugar, they don’t go into that calorie-clutching mode that causes those demoralizing weight-loss plateaus. Will we gain a little weight on Indulgence Day? Absolutely — especially if you do it right. Will you lose that weight? Absolutely … if you go back on your plan the next day. Does this make sticking to the eating plan six days a week easier? You betcha.

We’ve inspired several friends to give 4HB-inspired eating plans a try, and they — like us — are reporting very satisfactory weight loss with very little effort. My wish for them — and for you, dear reader — is that you will not let fears of ruining your progress spoil your Indulgence Day. Drop the inhibitions. Eat all you like of whatever you like. If you don’t feel a bit like vomiting around 9:00 PM, you’ve not done Indulgence Day right.

For your inspiration, I’m presenting below a list of everything I’m eating on this Indulgence Day, to be updated as we work our way through it all. Check in frequently for updates! This is gonna be an epic Day of Indulgence!
