Here’s the latest addition to my electronic arsenal: my Snowball USB
microphone from a company called Blue. From my desktop, it records
rich, well-balanced audio, making it perfect for podcasting.
Paired with the retro-futuristic microphone tripod that comes in Amazon.com’s bundle, this is a great solution for just about anyone looking for a mic capable of capturing professional-sounding audio … without having to retreat to a studio every time you want to make a recording. (You will need to download a software patch from Blue before using the mic; without the patch, levels are too low for most recording purposes.)
I also have the old CO1U USB condenser microphone from Samson. By comparison, its recording levels were always a problem (tracks invariably had to have their volume increased with processing software). The Samson’s software interface was also buggy, requiring the user to set recording levels in three different places.
The Snowball, though, once patched, works like a charm. It’ll be perfect for recording the audiobook version of the Tarot of the Elves companion guide!
